If you are interested in signing up for conferences please let me know what time on Thursday or Friday works best for you.  Woolaroc forms are due no later than this Wednesday, please mark down if you are able to drive or not.  We only have two dirvers so far for my class so another two at least would be much appreciated!  This Thursday is All Saints Day, a holy day of obligation.  It will be a Mass day and parents are welcomed to join students at St. Anne's on this day.  Jog-a-thon money is also due this week, please turn it in no later Wednesday (Oct. 31).  Also, students may dress in their Halloween costumes as long as they follow these restrictions:

No masks

No creepy contact lenses

No weapons

Nothing gory or bloody

No flip flops or any shoes that are not safe

Children should be able to manage the costume on their own

No face or body paint

No distractions on the face

Bring shoes for PE

Make sure the costume is easy to wear all dayIf students do not decide to dress in their costume they may dress in their complete school uniform.

Math:  There will be a Math test this Tuesday.  Students should focus their studying on interpreting word problems, identifying fact families and factors, and basic multiplication, division, and algebra.  Students should be bringing their books home to study but should not have homework besides that.

Social Studies:  In class we will be talking about the cattle drives and their influence on the development of Oklahoma.  Students will have homework everyday that they have Social Studies class.

Spelling:  This is a shortened week but we will still be having our Spelling test this Thursday shortly after Mass.  The spelling words from Unit 6 are as follows:

Language Arts:  We didn't get as much time in the Computer Lab as I would have liked last week so we are still typing up our final copies of Because of Winn-Dixie book reports.

Religion:  I want to thank all of you parents/guardians who were able to come to our Mass last week, we are the first 4th grade to participate in the Mass like this so far this year and we did a great job.  I was very proud of all of our participants!  This week we will still be focused on moving deeper into the Ten Commandments, and listening to God's voice with "the ear of our heart".

Reminder that Bingo Night is this Friday, our class is accepting prize donations of art supplies, games, toys, balls, activities, crafts. These items can be for kids of any age including teens. 

Also, our field trip to Woolaroc is scheduled for November 8th (Thursday), please make sure to get your forms in no later than Oct. 31, especially those of you who can drive so we don't run into the problems we had from last time.

Math

This week and part of next will still be focused on solving word problems.  We will have a test early next week (Mon. and Tues. probably) and students should expect a small amount of homework during this week so they can prepare and study.

Vocabulary

Vocabulary test will be this Friday, the words will be the words from Unit 5.

Religion

Still focused on the Ten Commandments, students can expect little H.W. from this subject during the next week.

Social Studies

We are moving into Oklahoma's role during the Civil War, H.W. expected Monday, Thursday, and Friday

Writing

I am hoping that we will be able to get into the computer lab at school this week and type up our final drafts of our Because of Winn-Dixie book reports. 

October 15th - 17th

This Wednesday is Jog-a-thon, remember that pledge sheets must be turned in Oct. 15 (Monday).

A shortened week this week, students will not have school Thursday or Friday.

Math
We are still working on solving algebraic problems, students can expect homework at least on Monday and probably on Wednesday also.

Language Arts/Writing
In class we will be working on the second draft of our book reports on Because of Winn-Dixie, this will be due Wednesday.

Vocabulary
Continuing with Unit 5 we will be studying the definitions and usage of the vocabulary words.  Test will not be until next week however.

Social Studies
In class we have been talking about the 1800s in Oklahoma and the U.S., we will continue this with a greater emphasis on the Natve American policies by the U.S. government.  Students should expect homework Monday and Tuesday/Wednesday.

Religion
How can we be leaders by being servants to others?  What responsibilities do we have when we are leaders?  No homework expected.

October 8 - 12, 2012

Spelling
We are starting unit five for this and the next week, this week will be focused on spelling the following words:

Math
In math this week we are finishing chapter 2 (2.6, 2.7, 2.8) and beginning to explore some algebraic functions.  Parents can expect homework every night except for Friday this week.

Social Studies
We are studying the 1700-1800s right now in Social studies, with a focus on the Louisiana Purchase and the French and Indian War and how these historical events affected the development of Oklahoma.  Expect homework Monday, Tuesday/Wednesday, and Thursday night.

Language Arts
Our Test is this Tuesday, students were given a study guide last week, and should be bringing that home to study. 

ReligionWe will continue the last weeks theme by focusing on the Ten Commandments and how they can be liberating. 

September 24th - 28th

Math:  We are continuing our exploration of multiplication by looking at various methods of multiplication as well as further our knowledge of the factors of 11 and 12.  We are will also be delving into finding the quotient using multiplication and the inverse ability.

Social Studies:  Our Map test was originally scheduled for Monday but due to some confusion amongst the students I have moved it to Thursday, see last week's post for the word list and a map printout to practice on.


Language Arts/Writing:  We are nearly ready for our first Grammar test which will probably be occurring next week sometime.  Students should be able to identify; the complete subject, the complete predicate, the simple subject, the simple predicate, a compound subject, a compound predicate, a run-on sentence, and a sentence fragment.

In Writing we will begin writing our first draft of our book report on the book Because of Winn-Dixie.

Math

We are getting into multiplication and division and their relationship to one another this week during math, there will be a small quiz on Friday.  This quiz should be fairly simple, if students can complete the homework during the week they should have no trouble with the quiz.  (Quiz became take-home quiz over the weekend)

Writing

In writing we will be beginning our rough drafts of our book report on Because of Winn Dixie, students will have significant class time to work on this, so there should be little to no homework with this.

September 10th - 14th

We will be having a math quiz on Wednesday on the three main concepts from Chapter One; writing numbers in various forms (standard, expanded, and written form), identifying the value of spot on a number line, and estimating/rounding numbers.
